ODC Dance Commons
The unique high energy dances and rich tradition of the African people arrived to the island of Cuba during the West African slave trade and thrives there today in the variety of Afro-Cuban dances. Barroso’s class will focus on the sacred movements of the Orisha tradition (dances of the Yoruba deities), as well as the dances of the Dahomey-Arara, Cuban-Haitian (Vodu, Gaga), Congo (Palo, Makuta), Rumba (Yambu, Guaguanco, Columbia), and Comparsa. Students will develop a strong understanding for the rhythm and vibrancy of Cuban dance. Live drumming! All levels welcome! |
